Falling Sick
after Taking Poisonous Food
Mabrur Atiqi, Mymensingh, 04 November: At least 35 people of Gafargaon under Mymensingh district
fell sick after taking poisonous foodstuff of a restaurant today. Of them, 18
were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where condition of three
was stated to be critical. Others received first aid at a local health complex.
The people of that locality reported
that in the morning suddenly they heard hue and cry from all corner. They saw
that many people became senseless and some of them started vomiting without any
stop. Then they took them to the upazila health complex. As their conditions
deteriorated, they were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The victims and police said 14
families of the upazila bought nan ruti and vegetable curry from the nearby
restaurant for breakfast at home at about 8 am. After taking the ruti and
curry, all 35 people including 8 children and 11 women had stomach pain and
started vomiting. At one stage some of them became senseless.
Police seized the foodstuff from the
restaurant and the flour from the nearby shop. Preliminary investigation showed
that the dough prepared for nan ruti was stale that caused the poisoning.

Bikash Poddar and flour seller Faruk were taken into custody this evening.
Restaurant owner went into hiding. A case has also been filed in this
connection with the local police station.
