A Depression in
the Bay of Bengal
Mabrur Atiqi, Dhaka, 04 November: A terrible monsoon depression has
formed in the bay of Bengal about 200 kilometers west of the Chittagong Port.
The depression is turning into a violent cyclonic storm. The meteorological
office says that the velocity of the wind at the center of the storm is about
150 kilometers per hour which is getting more and more violent. The storm is
heading towards the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The
meteorological office has asked to hoist signal No. 4 in Chittagong, Cox's
Bazar, Barisal, Pirojpur, and the coastal areas of Bangladesh. The storm is expected
to hit these areas and the off-shore islands within the next thirty-two hours.
The storm will also accompany tidal surge and may cause havoc severe havoc in
these areas. Sea will remain rough and may be fierce. Moderate to heavy rain
may occur at many places of the country.
The government has asked people living in
these areas to evacuate their houses immediately and take shelter in the
cyclone centers. All fishing boats and trawlers over the coastal areas are
advised to remain in shelter until further notice. The government has kept
various rescue teams ready for rescue operations after the cyclone. A state of
emergency in these areas has already been declared.
