Lives of Fisherman Miserable in
Bhola
Mabrur Atiqi, Bhola, 30 October: Fisherman of Bhola and the
surrounding areas are leading very miserable life. On interview, a number of
fishermen have said that their fish catching is not sufficient. They are not
getting fair prices of their fish. They have said that the life of them has
become very difficult and challenging. They are also gradually becoming
marginal in their profession.
As
they are poor, they do not have enough money to buy their own boats and nets.
They are usually hired by their Mahajans. But it is a matter of great regret
that they do not get their due. On the other hand, catching fish has become a
seasonal profession very recently. Many of them are thinking of changing their
profession as they cannot make their both ends meet.
They
alleged that they do not get any facilities from the government side. If this
condition continues, a huge number of fishermen will be unemployed. If
government sanctions bank loans on easy terms for them, they would be able to
buy their own boats and nets. They have urged this correspondent to draw the
attention of the government about their problem.
