Role of Satellite TV Channels
Mabrur Atiqi, Bhola, 11 September: The role of satellite channels is
very important in this modern age of globalization. Undoubtedly, satellite
channels have added a new dimension to television, a mass media of
communication and entertainment. Millions of people all over the country are
the viewers of satellite channels. These channels are creating both positive
and negative impacts on the people and culture of our country.
Our young generation is being much
exposed to western cultures through satellite channels. In most cases they are
following these western cultures in their life. It is true that they are
learning many good things from various satellite channels. But some channels
are telecasting violent and indecent programs for which our young generation is
drifting away from our own culture, music, entertainment and modes of life.
As a result, our original or
traditional culture is being ignored and the young generation is being
demoralized gradually. In spite of immense educational values, some satellite
channels are a great threat to our own culture and religious values. So, the
government should form a committee to determine which channels should be allowed
and which channels should be censored.
