Floods in Northern Districts

Mabrur Atiqi, Rajshahi, 09 September: Flood situations in Rajshahi and Naogaon deteriorated further inundating fresh areas in the last 24 hours while diarrhea broke out sporadically in some places. It has been known that two people, including a child, drowned in flood water at Mohanpur and two died of diarrhea at Keshobpur of Rajshahi in last two days.

About 4000 homeless people took refuge at 11 flood shelters in the affected areas where only two tons of chira was distributed as relief. The government assessment counted that about 54,300 families were badly affected by the flood. Diarrhea has broken out at Mohonpur, Bagmara, and Keshobpur areas of Rajshahi causing the death of two and affecting some 50 others.

Fresh areas of Mohonpur and Bagmara upazilas of Rajshahi have alraedy been flooded as strong currents caused breaches in the flood control embankment at Tengra and Muladi. Standing crops, vegetables, fish farms on over one thousands hectares of land have also been washed away by floodwater.
